This coffee-roasting retired naval aviator has been part of the AVIAN family for eight and a half years and we can’t get enough of his entrepreneurial spirit!

During his almost ten years with AVIAN, Freeman Dodsworth has supported Air Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX) ONE; the Naval Aviation Test and Evaluation University; and the Unmanned Systems Test Directorate (UASTD) at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland and Webster Field Annex in St. Inigoes, Maryland.

As the UASTD program manager, Freeman loves being part of a growing unmanned systems environment. He enjoys unmanned systems so much he even started his own UAS consulting company, REM_UAS, to help commercial construction companies use drones to generate data.

Before coming to AVIAN, Freeman served active and reserve duty during his twenty-five-year military career, but you’ll be hard pressed to find anyone who knows his call-sign. Try as you may to discover his call-sign, it may remain a secret forever.

During his time in the service, Freeman flew SH-2 and H-60B/F helicopters and provided small boat safety for Coastal Warfare where he enjoyed supporting humanitarian efforts; particularly in Central America.

When he’s not at “wild and wonderful Webster”, you’ll find Freeman cutting a rug to disco music with his wife Ellen, or buying and roasting coffee for another one of his businesses, Shellback Coffee Roasters. Did we mention his entrepreneurial spirit?  Freeman buys and roasts coffee beans from around the world, but loves the beans from Central America and Africa for their light, clean and tingly taste.
