Pay it forward. It’s a simple philosophy, yet it has huge dividends.
That’s why when the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) called asking about workforce development and training options, AVIAN offered knowledge sharing solutions that resulted in time, money and resource savings.
By utilizing pre-existing curriculum, developed for the Naval Air Systems Command’s College of Program Management (CPM), AVIAN provided a unique, tailored-curriculum for the USCG in just a few short months.
“The average time to develop, beta test and publish a three-day course is nine months,” said Kevin Switick, president and an owner of AVIAN. “We were able to tailor and deliver the USCG course in two. That’s the power of knowledge sharing. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel.”
In a recent article published by CPM, “tapping into pre-existing CPM curriculum, the Coast Guard was able to use courseware specifically designed to enhance the program management workforce’s knowledge of their roles in the acquisition process.”
“We know the defense acquisition system can be complicated, so having consistency across services is extremely valuable,” Switick said. “The icing on the cake is that it’s happening at a much lower cost and is a much quicker turn.”
AVIAN has offered Workforce Development and Training services to the Department of Defense and commercial clients since 2009. Since then, AVIAN has created more than 60 customer unique training courses and instructed over 300 classes to over 10,000 students at 16 client sites throughout the United States.
In 2009, AVIAN supported the creation of the flight test engineering core curriculum for the College of Test & Evaluation; and then repeated that success in 2013 supporting the creation of the entire College of Program Management core curriculum for integrated product team leads.
“Whether our clients are looking for a catalog of training classes, or a focused, one-time training event, we’ve got a team of experts who know how to build information into a uniquely tailored teaching tool,” Switick said. “We offer a proven and unique training approach that students embrace and truly enjoy.”
With the successful implementation/conversion for the Coast Guard late last fall, AVIAN has begun tailoring other courses for several systems commands in 2017.
Other commands that reached out to AVIAN include the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), the Marine Corps Systems Command (MCSC), the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR); and the U.S. Army’s Aviation and Missile Research Development and Engineering Center (AMRDEC).
These commands should realize similar time, money and resource savings.
“At AVIAN, we believe that knowledge is power and that knowledge can be achieved with targeted, meaningful training,” Switick said. “It’s really exciting when we have opportunities like this to share that power with more people.”
